This method transforms complex differential equations into simpler algebraic forms, making them more manageable and easier to solve.

    At its core, Fourier analysis decomposes a function or signal into a sum of sine and cosine waves, each with specific frequencies and amplitudes. This decomposition is known as a Fourier series for periodic functions or a Fourier transform for non-periodic functions. By representing a function in terms of these basic trigonometric components, differential equations involving the function can be converted into equations involving these simpler components.

    One of the primary applications of Fourier analysis in differential equations is in solving partial differential equations (PDEs), which describe a wide range of physical phenomena such as heat conduction, wave propagation, and quantum mechanics. For example, the heat equation, which models the distribution of temperature over time, can be transformed using Fourier series. This transformation converts the PDE into an ordinary differential equation (ODE) in terms of the Fourier coefficients, which can be solved more straightforwardly.

    Moreover, Fourier transforms are particularly useful in handling boundary value problems and initial value problems. By applying the Fourier transform, spatial derivatives in the differential equation become algebraic multipliers in the frequency domain.
